The longest active winning streak in college basketball ended Thursday at 47 games.
The Division III NJCAA Region XV women's squad from Monroe College in the Bronx lost to Florida Community College of Jacksonville a NJCAA Division-I team in the Palm Beach Holiday Classic. The Lady Mustangs, the 2006 national champions in their division, lost 64-62 the team's first defeat since losing 64-60 to Anoka-Ramsey in the national title game on March 19, 2005. "You never like to lose, much less have such a great run ended," said coach Seth Goodman, the Division III Coach of the Year last season after leading his team to a perfect 36-0 mark. "But, we're realists. Our goal is to win the national championship, and that is still very much a possibility." The longest previous winning streak among Division III junior college teams was 24.
