Region XV school Monroe College won their first round game at the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championship in Rochester, MN. The Lady Mustangs defeated UConn-Avery Point 64-46.
Monroe played without their leading rebounder, Markita Quarles, who was ill with the flu. But they got 6 points and 13 rebounds from Alexis "Paige" Sprewell, who played her best game of the year, grabbing 13 rebounds and scoring 6 points.
Next Monroe (29-1) will take on the winner game 2, either Madison Area Technical College, Wis. (23-7) or Camden County College, NJ (19-8). The game is tomorrow (3/13) at 6pm. Box Score
