| Monroe Takes Third at NJCAA Women's Basketball National Championship |
The #2 seeded Monroe College Lady Mustangs women's basketball team won a thrilling overtime game over #4 Onondaga CC (NY) 84-79 to capture third place in the eight-team NJCAA, Division III women's basketball tournament.
The game was tied at 67 after regulation, but Monroe never trailed in overtime.
Monroe sophomore Talaya Robinson scored the team's 67th point of the game. That basket gave her 8 points on the night and 861 for her career, enabling Robinson to pass former Monroe great Angela Pace (850 career points) for second on the Mustangs' all-time scoring list. Fantasia Goodwin is first with 1,685 points. Robinson was a walk-on for Coach Seth Goodman two years ago. She finished the game as Monroe's high-scorer with 18 points.
Monroe Lady Mustang sophomore point guard Aminah Davis was named to the NJCAA Women's Division III National All-tournament team. In the three games, Davis averaged 14.7 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3.7 steals.
The Lady Mustangs finish their season with a record of 31-2.
