Although the weather outside is frightful, the sounds of bouncing basketballs and whistles are delightful - that is for two Region XV basketball powers - Sullivan and FIT. The Generals and Tigers will meet in Wednesday's final after each won their respective semi-final games. Here's the lowdown:
Scores and Highlights from Monday March 1, 2010
All games at Westchester CC, Valhalla, New York
Game 5 - Men's Semi-Final
# 7 - Kingsborough 66, # 3 - FIT 83
FIT led from the opening tip, and was able to defeat upstart Kingsborough, 83-66, en route to securing the first spot in the Championship Game. Corey Jackson continued his strong play for the Tigers. The sophomore guard netted a game-high 23 points. Teammates David Cerant and Kyle Sierra each finished with 21 points for FIT. Kingsborough was led by William Holley's 18 points. FIT will meet Sullivan in the Championship Game on Wednesday at 7:30pm.
Game 6 - Men's Semi-Final
# 4 - Nassau 84, # 1 - Sullivan 95
Nationally ranked Sullivan (#2) survived a scare and was able to hold off Nassau, 95-84. The Lions, who led by eight points with just under 6:00 remaining, were stifled by Sullivan's up-tempo pressure defense. Moses Dayee poured in 26 points and Terry Coleman added 25 for the Generals. Tony Goode scored 16 points for Nassau, while teammate Jefferson Guillaume chipped in with 15 points in the losing effort. Sullivan returns to the Championship Game for a second straight year and will take on FIT on Wednesday at 7:30pm at Westchester CC. The Generals last won the Region XV title in 2006-07 and later claimed their fourth NJCAA National Championship.
