Friday's quaterfinal evening session proved consistent with that of the afternoon's as both of the higher seeds advanced. Below are the highlights from the two contests:
All Games at Westchester CC – Valhalla, New York Men's DIII Quarterfinals - Friday February 25, 2011 GAME 3 # 7 Queensborough - 69, # 2 Bronx - 85 The upstart Bronx men's basketball program continued their winning ways as they ousted seventh seeded Queensborough, 85-69. The second seeded Broncos combined a balanced scoring offense with pressure defense to offset the Tiger's upset bid. Christopeher Davis led Bronx with 18 points. Jerome Jones and Frederick Simpson registered 17 points each. Simpson grabbed 14 caroms while jones dished out three assists for the victors. Teammates Ernest Quaye and Erasmo Soto chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively. Queens native Leo Esonwune led the Tigers with 26 points. Bronx will play Kingsborough in Saturday's first semi-final. The scheduled start time is 5:30pm.
GAME 4 # 8 Suffolk - 49, # 1 Sullivan - 71 Top seeded Sullivan used a 28-6 run midway through the second half to pull away from Suffolk, 71-49, in Friday's last men's quarterfinal. The defending Region XV champion Generals will take on Nassau in the semi-final round on Saturday at 7:30pm. Marvin Jean, a Harriman native, netted 14 points and collected eight rebounds to lead Sullivan. Bobby Jones and Frankie Drayton added 12 points apiece in the win. Newfield High graduate Jeren Hall led the eighth-seeded Clippers with 16 points. Michael Marcelin tossed in 12 points in the loss. Suffolk, who led 31-30 at the break, lost the battle on the boards 48-27.
