Under the direction of
Region XV "Coach-of-the-Year" Kevin Foley, the Suffolk Clippers will once again visit Rochester, Minnesota and compete in the NJCAA DIII National Tournament. The three-day tournament will begin March 9, 2011 with a pre-tournament banquet. In his last visit to Rochester, Foley pioneered the 2003 Clippers to a National Championship. Here's a closer look at the champioship contest:
Queensborough - 45, Suffolk - 54Suffolk (18-4) began the game with a 17-2 advantage. However, midway through the first half, Queensborough stormed back with a 27-11 run and took a 29-28 lead at halftime. In what was a back-and-forth second half, Suffolk managed to settle things down, and eventually took the lead for good at 41-38 with under 7:00 minutes remaining. During the 54-45 victory, Leah Eleazer netted a game-high 18 points to lead the Clippers. Jeanette Spillane, an East Islip graduate, posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. She also dished out four assists in the win. Amanda Brissom chipped in with 10 points. Zaconia Bethea registered 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for the Lady Tigers.
